MALAYSIA’S FIRST BLUE OCEAN ENTREPRENEURS TOWNSHIP TO HELP BOOST YOUTH ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding to create Malaysia’s first Blue Ocean Entrepreneurs Township (BOET) which will be known as Borneo744. BOET is an initiative to strengthen and further complement the national entrepreneurship ecosystem through National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS). The Finance Ministry in a statement said that once Borneo744 is completed, it will be a vibrant and collaborative town for youth in creative and innovative industries.

NBOS COMPETITION – UNLEASHING YOUR CREATIVE AND INNOVATIVE POTENTIAL

Entrants for Malaysia’s National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS) competition are encouraged to submit their ideas via the official website by June 30, 2016. Successful entries will have a high impact, be delivered at low cost to the government, can be executed rapidly and will be sustainable. Entries should have a positive impact in one of the following three categories: Civil Service, Social Entrepreneurship or For-Profit Businesses.

MALAYSIA LAUNCHES IDEAS COMPETITION ON PUBLIC SERVICE

The Malaysian government has launched a national competition to transform the country’s civil service, businesses and social sector. The National Blue Ocean Strategy competition is looking for “high impact” ideas in each of the three sectors that will can be implemented in six months, are low-cost and can generate revenue to sustain themselves. The winning ideas in each category will receive a prize of almost $90,000(USD).

MaGIC EMPOWERS NATION’S ECONOMY

To help drive national development, one of Malaysia’s National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS) initiatives to foster entrepreneurship is the establishment of the Malaysian Global Innovation & Creativity Center (MaGIC). MaGIC is a comprehensive ecosystem for entrepreneurs to develop their businesses and it provides services, guidance and training to these determined individuals. The government has allocated RM50million for MaGIC to help assist entrepreneurs, and 14,000 entrepreneurs have already benefitted from MaGIC’s activities and programs.

ALMOST ALL REHABILITATED PRISON INMATES FOUND JOBS, BECOME ENTREPRENEURS

Ninety-five per cent of the 13,804 prison inmates who have undergone rehabilitation programs in the past two years have gained employment and turned into entrepreneurs. Deputy secretary-general (Management) of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MOHA) Datuk Wan Ali Wan Besar said the success was due to the collaboration between various agencies, fostered by National Blue Ocean Strategy.
